Since its inception in 2013, Eagle Elementary of Akron has been housed in modular buildings. The school dreamed of one day serving their community in a brick-and-mortar facility. TES took the school from the brink of financial insolvency in 2015 to operating with a cash surplus that allowed it to lease its first brick-and-mortar facility in 2022.

TR Paul Academy of Arts and Knowledge (AAK) longed to be an independently managed charter school. Unfortunately, a prior management organization crippled its ability to operate on its own by restricting information, contracting with vendors directly, and mismanaging its finances. In 2015, TES partnered with the school’s board of directors and leadership team to stabilize finances and smooth operations. After a three-year partnership with TES, AAK was ready to set out on its own. They have successfully managed as a fully independent charter school since 2018.

Riverbend Prep.’s large gymnasium had always been an activity hub for the community, but their outdated concrete gym floor prevented them from maximizing the space for athletic events. As an avid volleyball and basketball community, they longed for a quality gym floor. TES was able to manage the budget strategically, secure grant funding, and identify quality vendors to support the installation of a new floor in early 2023. That same year, the girl’s volleyball team went on to win the state championship! Riverbend Prep. took advantage of their new space by renting it to volleyball and basketball clubs in their area. Fantastic advertising for the school and extra revenue! Go Wildcats Go!

The larger an organization becomes, the harder it is to track who owns what tasks. Schools, like all organizations, can struggle to keep roles and responsibilities straight as the organization and community change over time. TES was thrilled to partner with Aspen Ridge Preparatory School (ARPS) in 2021 to revamp its organizational structure. We developed a comprehensive organizational map, rewrote all job descriptions for staff, and created systems of checks and balances. Two years in, ARPS’ is a shining star of operational excellence. Columbus Preparatory Academy had a dream to convert their unfinished 3rd floor into a high school. The project was stalled after years of failed launch attempts. TES stepped in to strategically manage the budget to finance the remodel, support the board in evaluating contractors and architects, and manage the project to completion in under a year. As of 2023, CPA is entering their third year of high school.

As all charter school leaders know, renewing your school’s charter can be a stressful project. TES is proud to have partnered with Aurora Expeditionary Learning Academy to support their charter renewal by leading a 5-year strategic planning seminar and supporting the preparation of the renewal application.
